George's obituary

George Nicholas Colonius, 90, of Kalispell, MT, passed away on July 17, 2022 after his big heart finally gave out.

George was born on December 21, 1931 to Julius Linus Colonius and Edna Sutton in Cleveland, Ohio. After graduating from East Stroudsburg High School in 1950, he went on to study education at The Pennsylvania State Teacher's College at East Stroudsburg, graduating in August, 1954.   After graduation, he landed his first job as a teacher in Aurora, Ohio, teaching science and coaching several sports, including football.  He met Connie while teaching and going to graduate school at Kent State, and they wed in 1960, and have 3 children, Matthew, Gretchen, and Carl.  George was by then a principal at Aurora, and realizing that the hours were long and the salary short, he made a switch to sales at the Gunton Company, selling Pella windows and doors -- a natural fit for a man who loved people, a good story and had a knack for remembering names and some of the details, and could embellish the rest to make it more interesting.  This also served him well in his retirement when he and Connie started traveling more around the States.  He said he hit them all -- we know he and Connie saw a lot of them as they visited their kids and family as they moved around!   With grandkids being born, they got to Alaska, New Mexico, Washington, and California, and had a few trips with Connie's brothers to and from Florida and Washington as well.  George was also a passionate gardener and photographer, and could often be found at the community garden in Kalispell when he wasn’t at home.  Anyone who knew George knew that tomatoes and cabbage were some of his favorite crops to grow, and he loved a good scotch (but tolerated a bad one too). George was predeceased by his sister Joan Colonius.  He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Connie Fogle Colonius.

The family requests that notes are sent to POB 9528, Kalispell, MT 59904. There will be a Celebration of Life at later time.  Please provide email addresses to this website if you would like to be notified.
