My condolences to the Babcock family. I was just informed of George’s passing. He was a mentor to me early-on in my career as a procurement professional with the City of Marietta in the early 1990s. George hired me and taught me the ins out outs of the business. It was under his tutelage that I learned the business from the ground floor. Working for George was like earning a master’s degree in procurement for free. I later moved to the international arena, living and working abroad as a senior executive and diplomat. I credit George largely for helping me build a solid foundation from which to continue my career endeavors. George was a “yankee” from Connecticut as many Southerners liked to call him at the City of Marietta. I will never forget - George hired two African Americans on his team (I was one of them) that raised some eyebrows in the day, but you have to know George - he was his own man - principled, did what he felt was right, and stood courageous during a time when others would bend. I’ll always be grateful to George for this as well as the countless contributions he made during the foundational years of my career. I’m thankful that I had an opportunity to communicate and catch-up with him over the past few years via FB and iMessage. He will be sorely missed. Rest in Peace, my friend. Until we meet again in God’s glory.
