George's obituary

George Alexander Johnson, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2025 at the age of 82, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Pennsylvania in February of 1943 to William Matthew and Helen McDonald Johnson and lived there until his father’s job transfer to Houston, Texas when George was a senior in high school. He continued his education at The University of Texas where he received his BS and MS degrees in Mechanical Engineering. He worked for Ingersoll-Rand/Dresser-Rand beginning as a sales engineer and moving up through the company as a sales manager, a Vice-President of the sales force of Europe, Middle East and Africa, and then as President of Electric Machinery in Minnesota. He retired early at age 55. The leisure life did not suit him, and he had a second career in residential real estate with Re/Max.

Throughout his life, George was a source of unwavering love, strength, and guidance to his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Linda Baten Johnson, Frisco; three daughters, Laurel Lynn Mood and her husband Stattler Mood, Round Rock, Carrie Yvonne Johnson, Frisco, and Alisa Noele Widmer and her husband Steven Widmer, Highland Village; seven grandchildren, Rachael Ann Mood, Trevor Oakes Mood, Krista Iola Mood, Henry Reuben Widmer, Zachary Cooper Johnson, Zoey Taylor Johnson, and Jacob William Widmer; and one sister, Janet Johnson Hernandez and her husband Ralph Hernandez, Houston, Texas.

George had a passion for golf. He played, practiced, watched teaching videos and the golf channel. He even did some “house golfing” which involved more than putting as he put a hole through a lamp shade and damaged an armoire in the bedroom with his follow through. He enjoyed hunting, a hobby he shared with his dad, and later a son-in-law and grandson. He also loved fishing, a sport he shared with his daughters.

He was best known for his sense of humor, keen wit, and his love of chocolate ice cream which he ate every day. He was a generous man in life, donating a kidney to a nephew, and in death, by donating his body to science.

In lieu of flowers, if you wish to honor George, donate to a charity of your choice.
