Geoffrey's obituary
Geoffrey Simon Banham, 68, of London, United Kingdom, passed away on 15 November 2025 at the Costa del Sol Hospital in Marbella, Spain. He is survived by his son, Jonathan, 29, whom he shared with Becky Garnaas.
Born on 5 February 1957 to Ronald and Marjorie Banham, Geoffrey spent his early years in Twickenham, in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. He attended a local school before following in his father’s footsteps and beginning a career in financial services as a stockbroker, working for several firms, most notably Morgan Stanley.
In 1989, Geoffrey moved to the south coast of Spain in search of a quieter life. While living there, he enjoyed playing tennis and quickly developed a wide circle of friends within the local community. He joined METRORED, a prominent Spanish telecommunications company, and spent years travelling between Valencia and Marbella, balancing the demands of work and family. Later, he settled inland in a town near Antequera, where he honed his skills as a chef at a boutique hotel and went on to build a successful career in real estate, specialising in country houses. As he approached retirement, he returned to the coast, living between Estepona and San Pedro on the Costa del Sol.
Geoffrey was known for his charm, his sociable nature, and his ability to make friends wherever he went. His strong business acumen carried him through multiple successful careers. Among his greatest joys were the years spent raising his son, Jonathan, and proudly seeing him off to university in the United States — always delighted when Jonathan returned to Spain to spend time together. He cherished long drives through the country roads of inland Spain and developed a deep appreciation for the quiet beauty and rich culture of the Andalusian countryside.
He will be remembered with love by all who knew him.
