Gene's obituary
Born March 21, 1953, Gene grew up in Irving, Farmers Branch, and Lewisville, and graduated from Lewisville High School in 1971. As an adult he spent 25 years in Texarkana where he worked as a firefighter and started his career in printing.
In the printing business for more than 30 years, he founded his printing business Inkwell Dallas in 2016. The product was a source of pride, but what he really enjoyed was the customers. He loved teaching them about printing and especially loved seeing them face to face. When possible, he hand delivered orders, and his clients learned that when Gene was coming it might not be a quick visit. It just might include a fishing story or an attempt to sway them to try whatever new thing he was into at that time.
He loved food - anticipating it, shopping for it, preparing it, cooking it, serving and eating it. Gene didn't just "grocery shop." Often it involved multiple stops. The "regular" grocery store, a Korean mart, a "healthy" store, and perhaps a farmers market or Hispanic market. When he wasn't cooking or planning meals on the weekends, he could be found enjoying his other passion, fishing.
He had a knack for dissecting and solving complex problems and was proud to share his resolutions. His clever wit and humor attracted people and made many quick friends. His truly genuine personality will be profoundly missed.
Gene was preceded in death by his mom, Barbara Nunnery and is survived by his wife Nanci Williams, son Chris Williams and his wife Courtney, daughter Lindsey Williams, son Michael Williams and granddaughter Jaylee, and stepdaughter Holly McCauley and grandson Gage. He is also survived by his father Don Williams, brothers Kim, Jimmy and Jason Williams, sister Jana Davenport, and numerous nieces and nephews.
As Gene adamantly requested no formal service, a casual lunch reception will be held to celebrate his life and share memories. The reception will be held at Winfrey Point (950 E Lawther Dr, Dallas, TX 75218) on Thursday, February 20, 2020 from 12pm - 2pm. As there will be no formal service, guests are welcome to come and go. Casual attire encouraged - just like Gene would wear!
