Gene's obituary

Gene Nash was born January 28, 1936, in Ruby, Arizona, to Bob and Wyncie Nash. He was the first of four children. He and his siblings Ann (Jerry) Webb of Lone Oak and Jimmy (Judy) Nash of Marshall and the late Bobby Nash of Marshall, all grew up in Marshall.

Gene followed in his father's footsteps as a pipeline welder. His skills and dedication took him all around the world to work. In his travels, he left his mark as a fine craftsman with those that worked alongside him. In addition to his accomplishments as a welder, Mr. Nash was a proud member of Pipeliner's Local Union 798 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, for more than 60 years.

Gene married the true love of his life Ann (Sullivan) in April of 1956. They have two sons, Stanley Gene Jr. and his companion, Rahanna Bragg, of Karnack and Robbie and his wife, Julie, of Walnut Creek, California, who filled his life with pride.

The Nash family moved to south Louisiana in the early 1970's and remained there for nearly 20 years before returning to East Texas. During those years, Gene continued his career as a pipeline welder and picked back up on his childhood hobby of fishing. He cared deeply for his mother-in-law, Lucille Sullivan, especially when she would make him his favorite dessert, pecan pie.

His greatest joy came with his grandchildren, Joey, David, Amanda, Sarah, Trevor and Jacob, who affectionately called him "Papa." He monitored each child closely from afar and was proud to share the successes of the grandkids with a close friend or a total stranger.

From the four great-grandchildren, Hayden, Krista Rose, Kale and Jude, born to Joe and Savannah born to Sarah, the professional careers of David or Amanda and the college adventures of Trevor and Jacob, Papa offered encouragement or admonishment to each of them as the occasion required.

In addition to the children and grandchildren, his nieces and nephews also held a special place in Uncle Gene's life. As quiet and reserved as he was, he never seemed to mind a houseful of kids laughing and playing, as long as the words please and thank you were applied.

Gene spent his last years on Caddo Lake. When the weather permitted, he could be found sitting under the shade tree, waving to the passersby. It was not uncommon to have a dozen or more friends, new and old alike, joining in to help him take it easy.

The extended Nash family wishes to thank all those people that have shared their condolences, their warm memories and their love for a great father, brother, uncle and friend. A special thanks to all the Pipeliners that made his life so full of memories and his golden years a reality of which he had long dreamed.

A private memorial service for Mr. Nash was held Tuesday, September 24, 2013.
