I loved hearing Gene talk about KJ. I’ll never forget when he told our choir that KJ was accepted into Juliard. He was deeply grateful to God for it. Gene and his wife took the scripture to heart to train up a child when they are young so that when they are old they will not depart from it. It is always a blessing when KJ is in town, and he plays his violin in the orchestra. Thanks KJ for honoring Christ and your parents in your winsome witness of Christ.

The first time I saw him I was the the balcony. Gene.... he was singing on stage at Grace Baptist...a solo...."In Remembrance of Me." His voice was perfect...both strong and soft. Later, upon meeting him in the lobby one Sunday, I discovered the man himself, too, was strong in character and soft of heart....it's Christ's work in him. Praise the Lord.

He was beaming as he told me about his wife and his son who played the violin. I hope you are still playing, Gene's son...I don't know your name...but, I know your dad would want you to continue to play for the Lord.

I am so sorry to hear about Gene's passing. I will always remember our conversations and time spent taking KJ and Patrick to concerts and competitions. We all miss him dearly. During our conversations it was clear that he was very devoted to KJ, and was also very proud of KJ's accomplishments.

Gene and Kiyoko have a dog named Hinata. She was the first dog my pup ever got to play with and that’s how I met them. I got to have many talks with Gene during walks. From books to philosophy, engineering and Japanese film. He shared the great pride he had for his son and talk of great trips he would take with KJ and Kiyoko. Gene was funny too. He once told me a story that when he was in college there was a tree blocking the view from his balcony, so he went and chopped it down, later to find out that it was earth day. Planted some trees for you Gene! Enjoy the new view!

I grew up in the same neighborhood as Gene. We went to different schools until high school but, I didn't really get to know Gene until we reconnected on of all places Facebook. We corresponded several times there and learned we shared similar political views and also shared Christian values. Through that correspondence I learned what an awesome Father and husband he was too his family. I'm so sorry to hear of his passing, but am glad he won't be suffering any longer. I'm grateful for my friendship with him, and only wish it could have lasted longer. My thoughts and prayers are with the family at this difficult time. May God bless you in this hour of need.
