Gene's obituary

Elmer “Gene” Lindemann 91,

On June 13, 2024 with family by his side and the sun setting over the Rockies outside his window, Gene moved from his Littleton home to his heavenly home. Reminiscent of his favorite western movies; this cowboy rode off into the sunset. Gene was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He will be deeply missed.

Gene was born November 9, 1932 to Elmer and Vera Lindemann in Oberlin, Kansas. Gene had a happy childhood; he liked to explore the rural town’s creek bed and to help at his dad’s Conoco gas station. He enjoyed nature and the outdoors: hunting, fishing and boating. When he was seventeen, his sister Patty was born. At that time, Gene was excelling in high school athletics: football, basketball and track. In 1950 he received a full ride football scholarship to University of Wyoming and after one cold season in Laramie, he transferred to McCook Junior College in Nebraska to play three sports: football, basketball and track and was honored with Little All American in football.

Gene married Marilyn Sorensen in 1952 and they had three children: Rocke, Polly and Troy. Gene began his career by installing residential TV antennas. He then taught himself electronics through a mail order TV repair course and opened a TV repair business on Main Street, Oberlin, Kansas.  After their divorce in 1971, Gene sold his business and moved to Colorado to become a traveling salesman for the Electronics Parts Company, selling throughout western Colorado and northern New Mexico, making his home base in Grand Junction and then Alamosa, Colorado. Subsequently he worked in Denver for Gates and then then retired from Optima Battery.  His genuine, down to earth personality made his customers and coworkers look forward to their time with him. Gene met and married his great love, Yvonne "Yve" Heath in 1983 and they have been enjoying life together for over 41 years.

Gene always liked a project and was happy to build, fix or grow anything you needed; from home remodels, to go-carts, to tomatoes. He also loved the mountains and would drive up just to take an afternoon nap by a river. Shortly before he died, Gene spoke of an early experience he had in the Colorado mountains. He recalled a few moments where he felt everything was perfect, no fear but inner peace and joy for life and the world. He said his heart had been in the Colorado Rockies ever since.

Gene is preceded in death by his father Elmer Charles Lindemann and his mother Vera (Marietta) Lindemann. Gene is survived by his loving wife, Yvonne (Heath) Lindemann, his three children and their spouses: Rockne and Eddie Lindemann, Polly and John Charleston, Troy and Kimberly Lindemann; all of Wichita, KS and grandson: Luke Lindemann and wife Emmile, of Boulder, CO and granddaughter: Elise Lindemann, of Davis, CA and his sister: Patricia (Lindemann) Reinhardt and husband Kent, of Otis, KS.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 on Saturday, July 13, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 6322 S Lakeview St, Littleton, CO 80120.
