GENE's obituary

Gene Thomas Apel of Joplin Mo passed away on July 25, 2023 at the age of 74.

Gene was born February 25,1949 in Pittsburgh, PA.

Gene was proceeded in death by his father Charles Arnold Apel, WWII Veteran and mother Helen Lucile Apel, as well as his sister Sally Ann Apel.

He attended Sequioa H.S in Redwood City CA and was on the student Council there prior to graduating.

Gene was a retired United States Army helicopter pilot and commercial truck driver. Gene was proud to serve his country and fight for the freedoms we enjoy in the USA.

Gene was a lover of fast cars and beautiful women. He was married a total of six times. He always said he wanted to be married, but just couldn't handle all the rules that came with it. I know this as I am his only child. He wasn't very good at the husband and father thing, but that was him and that was ok. I loved my dad regardless of what anyone thinks or says. My dad took a lot of secrets and heartache with him when he passed. I truly hope that he has found the peace he was searching for in life.

Survivors include his only daughter Sheri Alexis Alampi and her Husband Carl J. Alampi of Crossville, TN; Brother Charles Ronald Apel of Boulder City, NV; Wife #6 Chris Hoag-Apel of Joplin; step-son John Hoag; step-daughter Tracey Poston
