I learned about true friendship from Gay. We became best friends in the 4th grade, after she moved to Abernathy. We walked home from school that first day, sharing Hot Tamale candy, and finding out that our birthdays were only 5 days apart----we became fast friends. This friendship lasted 50 years. And I will always love her like a sister. We were still supposed to be rockin' out to the Beatles songs and raising cane. I am so sorry to have lost this once in a lifetime friend. I will always remember her with love. Blessings be to all of her dear family and friends. She was one of a kind, and she will not be forgotten---every time I see a feather on the ground, or a picture of a bat, I will think of Gay Byers. She had a beautiful spirit, and an infectious laugh! Love ya girl!
Gay was a dear friend and fellow teacher. She was compassionate and loved her students and they loved her. She had a wonderful sense of humor and I was blessed to have her in my life. She was the first one to wish me Merry Christmas, Happy New Year as well as every other holiday. Heaven is enjoying her crazy laugh and her sweet smile. I love you dear friend💖
I only met Gay briefly when she elder sat my dear mother. But I heard a lot about her from Amanda Woodell because they were such close friends. It was obvious Gay was such a beautiful soul. One of the best. A lovely person inside and out. Although passing over is part of living in this world--and we all will do it at our special time--Gay's passing is leaving us with one less Earth Angel!
Gay loved feather boas, drumming and dancing! Her love and friendship is everlasting. She was passionate about teaching and everything else she did in her life. Gay’s wonderful laugh will always be with me!
