Gasole “Rogers Masendi” Birate (1973–2024)

Des Moines, IA — Gasole “Rogers Masendi” Birate, age 52, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away on October 25, 2024. Born in Nairobi, Kenya, Gasole brought a vibrant spirit, generous heart, and a love of family and friends wherever he went.

He shared a special bond with his son, Maddix, enjoying San Antonio Spurs and OKC Thunder basketball, action movies, and music — especially Drake — which filled their car rides with energy and laughter. Gasole’s life was full of warmth, kindness, and celebratory spirit , leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him.

Gasole’s journey from Nairobi to Des Moines was marked by courage and purpose. Though his life ended too soon, his legacy will live on — in the stories he always started with, “Where I come from, we have this saying …,” to the music of The Red Rocks and down thru the heart of a son who will forever carry his father’s love forward.

A celebration of Gasole’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family invites friends to honor his memory by cherishing time with loved ones and embracing life’s simplicity of “the now”. 

Rest in peace Roger’s, as “it’s all good, everything is fine”.
