Gary's obituary
Gary W. Reed, 69, passed of Gardendale, Alabama, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2025, after an extended illness. Born on January 2, 1956, in Prichard, Alabama, Gary spent most of his life in the Gardendale area, where he built a life rooted in hard work, family, and quiet strength.
Gary was known for his unwavering integrity and tireless work ethic. He spent many devoted years working at Stephen's Graphics in Birmingham, where he earned the respect of coworkers and formed lifelong friendships. He retired with pride, having built a career that reflected his character-steady, honest, and dependable.
To his family, Gary was lovingly known as Doda. That same dedication he gave to his professional life, he poured even more fully into his role as a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Doda's happiest moments were those spent with his family-whether enjoying quiet days at home, cheering on Alabama football, or simply sitting in the presence of those he loved.
Gary is survived by his loving wife and best buddy, Sandra, and his two daughters: Sherrie Yates (husband Andrew) and Regina Plyler. He was a proud grandfather to three grandchildren: Michael Williams (wife Cyanna), Michelle Bradfield, and Holly Cannon (husband Paul). He also leaves behind four great-grandchildren who brought him joy and pride: Ethan-Andrew Cannon, Olivia Cannon, Jacob Bradfield, and Gracie Bradfield.
Gary's legacy is one of quiet strength, loyalty, and love-a man who worked hard, loved harder, and left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to know him.
A private service will be held with close family members to honor and celebrate Gary's life.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Gary's memory to the American Lung Association.
