Gary James Van Wambeke passed away peacefully in his home on January 18, 2023. Gary is survived by his two children Eric and Maria, his mother Frances Kelley, and his brother Paul. Gary was born on November 19, 1945 in San Francisco, CA to parents Richard and Frances. He grew up in San Francisco, California where he attended Lawton Elementary and Lincoln High School, both located in the Sunset District. 

In San Francisco, he spent most of his days surfing at Ocean Beach and racing road bikes around Marin County. Gary loved nature and the outdoors and was an avid sportsman. Gary and his former wife, Valentina, raised their two children in the Russian River. He moved to the Columbia River Gorge in the mid-nineties to be closer to his favorite hobby, windsurfing. He met his loving life partner Debbie in the Gorge and they spent thirty years together.
