Gary and his parents moved to Chula Vista, California.  Gary continued to play golf and continued his education there. In 1999, Gary met Pastors Henry and Dolly Aspeytia. Gary accepted Jesus into his life and started attending church with them.  When Anselma passed in 2007, Gary decided to moved with his sister, Laura Whitlock. Gary found a home in the City of Long Beach and a career at Ralph's Market. Gary also started attending A New Hope Fellowship with his sister and brother-in-law, Michael Whitlock. There Gary thrived and made many, many new friends.

To many, Gary was a kind and fun-loving person. His life will forever be cherished in the lives of his family and friends that knew and loved him. Gary is survived by his father, Juan Manuel in Brawley, CA, Siblings: Albert Tanian, Patrick Tanian and Laura Whitlock. His in-laws, Michael Whitlock, Sun City, AZ and Kim Pineda, Seattle, WA, and Wanda Nguyen, Marianna, FL. His Uncle and Aunt, Ron and Charlotte Manuel, Ahwatukee, AZ and Aunt Lorraine Celades, Honolulu, Hawaii.  Gary's dear friend, Joseph Mauke and a host of devoted, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
