Gary's obituary

Gary passed away peacefully at home on August 9, 2022. Loving husband, father and grandpa. Preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.  He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Claudette; sons, Jay (Therese) and Cal; grandchildren, Nora, Gavin and Grace; brother John (Sandy) as well as many loving family members and friends.

Gary was born in Stillwater, MN, but lived most of his life on the East Side of St. Paul where he worked at the Whirlpool plant for 13 years and then went on to work at the University of Minnesota in the maintenance department where he retired in 2002.

Gary was a true outdoorsman and loved just about anything outdoors. He loved fishing and hunting and enjoyed countless days catching crappies and sunfish, fall days hunting white tail deer and enjoyed lots of time at the cabin.

After retirement, when he could not get out on the lake or in the woods, he turned his attention to gardening. You would have thought he had a ten-acre garden with all the veggies and fruits he grew in his yard – pears, raspberries, tomatoes, green beans, peppers, squash, the list was endless! The last couple of years, Gary did most of his gardening from his chair as he passed his gardening knowledge and expertise along to Cal – the new keeper of the garden. He also liked to read and watch pretty much any show about animals and loved watching episodes of Monster Fish.

He had the best poker face and a smile that could light up a room! He loved to try and pull one over on all the kids; I am sure everyone has a story of how Dad, Grandpa or Uncle Gary played a trick on them!  He will be missed dearly and thought of often.
