Gary's obituary
In Loving Memory of Gary Johnson
October 12, 1970- October 17, 2025
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Gary Johnson, a devoted husband, father, opa, brother, and friend. Gary touched the lives of many with his warmth, generosity, and unwavering spirit, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Loretta Johnson, and their three sons: Dean Johnson and his fiancée, Rachel Haugh, along with their children Hayden, Nathan, and Owen; Brandon Johnson and his wife, Amy Johnson, and their daughters Amelia and Delilah; and Nicholas Johnson and his wife, Candice Burk. Gary is also survived by his brother, Kevin Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Carol Johnson, and his mother-in-law, Carol Zweng.
Gary was known for his kind heart, cheerful nature, and free-spirited personality. He was a guiding light to his sons, first as their coach, and later as a role model and mentor. His craftsmanship in cabinet building reflected not only his skill but also his dedication and work ethic, which he generously shared with colleagues and friends. In addition, Gary had a passion for drumming and spending time in northern Michigan.
Among his proudest achievements was his service in the United States Army, where he exemplified courage, commitment, and honor. Yet, his greatest joy came from raising his three sons with Loretta and spending cherished moments with his grandchildren.
As we grieve the loss of this remarkable man, we also celebrate the legacy he leaves behind, a life filled with love, laughter, and lasting lessons. Gary’s spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at Holy Innocents–St. Barnabas Church, 26100 Ridgemont Street, Roseville, MI 48066. A small luncheon will follow immediately after the Mass.
