Gary's obituary
Gary Kinch, a native of Endicott, NY, peacefully passed away on November 5, 2023, in his hometown of Hickory, NC. Gary was renowned for his unwavering love and commitment to his wife of 51 years, Marian Kinch, and his two daughters, Amanda (Dudley) and Rebecca (Harris).
Lovingly referred to as “Papa”, his legacy extends to his six grandchildren: Makaylah Elliott, Grayson Dudley, Aiden Dudley, Kerrigan Dudley, DJ Harris, Ava Harris, and his great-grandchild, Laila Rorie.
Preceded in death by his parents Lenelda Wolfe and Harold Kinch, step-father Elwood Erbstoeszer, brother Donald (Sara) Kinch, and Linda (Bob) Cragle (still residing), Gary left a lasting impact on those who knew him.
Gary's craftsmanship skills were widely admired, particularly in his meticulous restoration of street rods, exclusively Fords. His ability to transform wreckage into perfection showcased his visionary talents.
Gary's love extended beyond his family to his diverse circle of friends, including his weekly lunch companions, fellow classic car enthusiasts, and lifelong friends from the bluegrass music community.
A man of simplicity and authenticity, Gary was known for his infectious sense of humor, a love of good food, and an enduring zest for life. Those who encountered him, no matter how briefly, can attest that each moment with Gary was a positive one.
While we mourn his passing, we find solace in the knowledge that Gary is now free from suffering, reunited with departed friends, family, and beloved four-legged companions. As his dear friend Gene Johnson aptly sang in a Diamond Rio song:
"God only cries for the living 'Cause it's the living that are left to carry on An' all the angels up in Heaven They're not grieving because they're gone There's a smile on their faces 'Cause they're in a better place"
Gary's vibrant spirit and generational legacy will continue to inspire and live on in the hearts of those he touched throughout his remarkable life.
