Gary Robert Goyette, aged 79, passed away on September 21st, 2024, at Christus St Vincent Hospital in Santa Fe, NM, during a short hospital stay following a heart attack. Born in Wausau, WI, on August 5th, 1945, he sported the nickname Flash in childhood but during High School in Mayville, WI acquired the nickname Gutsy which stuck for life.

Originally a draftsman by trade he had a lifelong passion for architecture, craftsmanship, and preservation. In the mid 70’s Gary formed a company named the Victorian Era with his friend Tom Rebholz in Milwaukee, WI. They restored many Victorian homes in the greater metropolitan area. He spent the remainder of his career first working at Taliesin East, and ultimately retiring from Old World Wisconsin - a job he absolutely loved. Retiring to Guttenburg, Iowa, he could frequently be found walking along the river with his dog Natasha and chatting with neighbors and friends. During this time he consulted on restoration of historic buildings in the area such as the Clock Tower of the Clayton County Courthouse.

Gary spent his last years living with his daughter and son-in-law in Dixon, NM, making new friends and walking his dog daily in the hills by his casita. He had a deep appreciation for art, the natural world, and restoring old things. He was a genuinely kind person who provided harbor to friends and family in need. He didn't judge people harshly. He was funny, gregarious, he loved blues music, corny jokes, and baseball. He could talk your ear off, and had tons of stories of meeting and listening to rock musicians in his youth with his friend Spid Pieper. A lover of comedies, his favorite movie was Young Frankenstein. He really loved his family and he worked to maintain his lifelong relationships with friends near and far.

Gary is survived by his daughter Jennifer Goyette and son-in-law Brian Barreto, his brother and sister-in-law Jack and Peggy Egner and the entire Egner clan, his sister Bobbie Jean whom he was fortunate to meet later in life, the Clark family of his late wife, Jim Voss, Judy Voss, and the extended Voss Family, many wonderful nieces, nephews, and many close friends. We would also like to acknowledge his sister - born Sandra Goyette. Gary was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Cheri (Clark) Goyette, elder brother Danforth Richmond, his sister Sally (Richmond) Voss, his niece Margie Voss, Step-father Jim Rediski, and his cherished parents Marion Paronto and Robert E Goyette.

He lived a good life, and he was loved. He liked to quote his brother Jack when signing off, “Keep your stick on the ice.”
