Gary's obituary
Gary Francis Richards, 75, of Bellflower, embarked on his next great adventure on April 14th, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family, just the way he lived – free and spirited.
Born on February 5th, 1949, in Long Beach, Gary came into the world alongside his twin sister Gayle, a cosmic coincidence he cherished deeply. Raised in the vibrant energy of Wilmington, CA (Wilmas), he danced through life with a passion for the past and a heart full of memories.
Gary was a proud US Army Veteran and a craftsman. With over 35 years spent crafting masterpieces in manufacturing, Gary's hands worked magic on Wolf Range stoves, infusing each creation with a piece of his passion and dedication to excellence. As Union president, he fought tirelessly for his fellow workers, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew him.
Beyond the confines of his profession, Gary was a devoted father, a soulmate, a cherished friend, and later in life, a grandpa to many four-legged friends. He found solace in the echoes of yesteryears, swapping tales of bygone days and losing himself in the melodies of his favorite bands, musicians, and cheering on his favorite athletes.
A true child of the times, Gary embraced his inner hippie with open arms, embodying the ethos of peace, love, and harmony. He adorned his life with symbols of nostalgia, from tie-dye shirts to vintage photo collages that whispered tales of days gone by.
Gary's connection to nature was deep and profound. He found serenity in the rhythm of the ocean, spending countless hours surfing and feeling the waves beneath him. He also found solace in the majestic beauty of the mountains, hiking trails that led him to breathtaking views and moments of pure tranquility.
A passionate musician, Gary's soul found its true expression through the beat of the drums, the rhythm of percussion, the melody of his singing voice, and the soulful notes of his harmonica. Music was his companion through life's ups and downs, a constant source of joy and inspiration.
With a heart as vast as the universe and a spirit as boundless as the sky, Gary leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and light. He was a dreamer, a wanderer, and a seeker of truth, forever dancing to the rhythm of his own drumbeat.
Gary is survived by his twin sister Gayle, brother David, his 4 children: Nicole, Spencer, Natalie, and Jacob, his ex-wife Judith, as well as nieces, nephews, and a constellation of friends who will carry his memory in their hearts.
A Celebration of Life, filled with laughter, music, and memories, will be held to honor Gary's journey on May 26th 2024 at Green Onion Mexican Restaurant in San Pedro, CA.
As we bid farewell to our free-spirited friend, let us remember to dance in the sunshine, cherish the memories, and keep the spirit of Gary alive in our hearts.
