Gary's obituary
Mr. Ackerland was born March 9, 1939, in Park River, N.D., to George and Edith Ackerland. He moved to Sarasota in 1983 where he owned Gary's Roofing until he retired in 1997.
Gary ran Gary’s roofing in Sarasota Florida since the early 80s. Construction was in his blood and he always had something going on, that’s just the way he was. He made sure that he taught all his boys the trade as well, so he knew they could always take care of themselves.
He was a wonderful son to his father and mother George and Edith. Gary would call them every day and talk to them for at least an hour. He was always was concerned with what was going on with them. He made extra provisions for them so their retirement was more enjoyable. He was the example all children should follow on how to take care of their parents.
He loves camping, fishing,and being outdoors. If Gary wanted to go camping, he would just throw the boys in the back of the pick up and they were out fishing and having a good time!! Gary didn’t need million dollar RV to have a good time in the outdoors.
Memorial services will be held 7 p.m. Sunday, June 27, at The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 4225 Swift Rd., Sarasota.
Survivors include his wife, Suzan; his parents, of Moline; daughters, Tamera Ely, of Colorado, Sheri Carson, of Flordia, and Jennifer Ackerland, Sarasota; sons, Darin, Brian, Christopher and Nathan, all of Sarasota; sisters, Myrna Rae State, Sarasota, Jana Diaz, of Iowa, and Julie Mador, of Iowa; brothers, Harlin, Harold and Donald, all of Illinois, and David and Randy, both of Iowa; and nine grandchildren.
