Obituary
Garry “Gene” Powers was born in Darwin, Virginia on July 26, 1939 to Carles and Oma Powers. One of 15 children growing up in the mountains of Caney Ridge, he had many stories that he would fondly remember and share about his childhood. He contracted polio at the age of 18 months and lost the use of his right leg, but he would go on to prove that would not slow him down.
