Garrett's obituary

Garrett Leigh Smith

November 9, 1973 – September 13, 2025

It is with deep love and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Garrett Smith, age 51, of New Braunfels, TX, who entered into eternal rest on September 13, 2025.

Born on November 9, 1973, Garrett lived a life full of curiosity, humor, and an endless desire to understand how things worked.

Garrett was an electrician by trade for 33 years, earning his Master’s License at just 24 years old. His career took him to many corners of the industry, from offshore oil rigs as Chief Electrician to teaching tradesmen in Afghanistan, a role he cherished for the impact it had on their communities.

A natural problem-solver, Garrett never met a gadget, trivia question, or challenge he didn’t want to figure out. He found joy in learning, tinkering, and asking “why” until he uncovered the answer.

He had a deep love for sports, especially motocross, football, baseball, and even the occasional late-night cricket match. His work and adventurous spirit allowed him to travel across the United States and to many countries, experiences he treasured and shared with his family. Garrett also had a green thumb and loved tending to his garden, always finding peace and satisfaction in watching things grow.

Above all, Garrett’s favorite role was that of “Pops.” From rocking newborns to sleep, to teaching swimming lessons, to belly laughs over silly cartoons, Pops wasn’t just a grandfather, he was a best friend, partner in crime and source of joy for his grandchildren.

Garrett is survived by his wife, Debbie Smith; daughter, Kaleigh Burns, and husband, Justin; and his grandchildren, Charleigh and Ace of Palmer, TX. He is also survived by his parents, Pam and David Smith; his siblings, Forrest, Bryon, Autumn, and Christiana, along with their spouses and many nieces, nephews, and friends who loved him dearly.

He is preceded in death by his beloved son and best friend, Austin Garrett Smith.

A graveside service to celebrate Garrett’s life will be announced soon for all who wish to attend.
