Galina's obituary
Our Mother and Grandmother Galina Hill born on February 10, 1940 in Leningrad, Russia as Галина Павловна Кириллова (Galina Pavlovna Kirillova), passed away on May 3, 2025. She graduated from Leningrad State University in 1962 with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and then went on to defend her PhD thesis in electrochemistry in Professor Valery Kravtsov's lab. She worked in positions with increasing responsibility at Sechenov Institute of Evolutionary Biology and Biochemistry until her departure in 1991 to join her daughter and granddaughter in the United States.
She married Harlin Bradford Hill in 1992 and graduated from a post-graduate program in computer science at Boston University. She then had another successful career in computer engineering, working at the Massachusetts Department of Revenue for 17 years, retiring at the age of 76.
Galina was an avid gardener, enjoyed taking long walks (8000+ steps/day!), and loved Law & Order, CSI, NCIS, and any foreign soap opera available. Galina leaves her daughter Katherine Tsaioun-Helin of Watertown and granddaughter Genie Alexander of Peabody.
