It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Great Grandfather, fondly known to all as Uncle Gajraj. Born in Berbice, Guyana, on 13th March, 1933. Uncle Gajraj passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 4th, in Lakeland,FL surrounded by his loving family. He was the eldest of his siblings.
Uncle Gajraj was a very devoted family man and a true patriarch. He was married in 1955 to Latchme and they were just shy of celebrating their 69th anniversary on August 19, 2024. He was blessed with seven children, sixteen grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren, all of whom he cherished deeply and loved having around him. Uncle Gajraj’s house was always filled with warmth and laughter as throughout his life he was always hosting large gatherings for his family & friends.
His professional journey began first as a schoolteacher and then at the family Sawmilling business until he migrated to the United States in 1982. Throughout his career, he was respected for his honesty, integrity, and hard work.
Uncle Gajraj was a pioneer in the Sawh family. In the 1960’s he was the first in the family to own a turntable and quality sound system in Guyana. He was also the first to bravely migrate to the United States in search of a better life for his family. His pioneering spirit was matched by his love for life. Even in his older years, he remained active, often seen walking on the treadmill, and at the age of 91, he was still driving. Gardening brought him joy, and in Guyana, he even grew grapes. Cooking was another passion of his and Pepper pot was his most favorite dish.
