Gail's obituary
Gail Denise Bruce-Konuah (Dew) was born to Emma Jean Albritton and William Henry Dew on October 21,1954, in Muskegon, Michigan. She peacefully departed this earth on Monday, April 13, 2026, surrounded by her beloved children.
Gail graduated from Muskegon Heights High School in 1972. During her high school years, she was actively involved in Upward Bound, Drama Club, Pep Club, Y-Teens, Cheerleading, and the Black Education Movement. She was also known as one of the best dancers in her class. She went on to attend Western Michigan University, where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education and Geography in 1976, and later obtained her Master’s Degree in Education from National Louis University.
While a student at Western Michigan University, Gail worked for three years as a Student Counselor for freshmen participants in the Martin Luther Program during their first year. Her supervisors shared that Gail was a delight—sincere, devoted, and an excellent example to the students to whom she was assigned, as well as a sincere joy to know.
Following college, she fulfilled her lifelong dream of traveling to Africa before starting a family. Gail had a deep desire to have children, therefore becoming a mother was one of her greatest joys. She and her former husband Niivan Bruce-Konuah were blessed with three children: Niivan Bruce-Konuah II (born 1985), Lina Bruce-Konuah (born 1987), and Glenn Bruce-Konuah (born 1989).
Gail also had a deep love for cooking both soul food, and her famous African dishes—which were always a huge hit with everyone. Additionally, she held a strong appreciation for soul music, reflecting her vibrant spirit and cultural pride.
In 1996, she moved to Wisconsin after accepting a teaching position at Milwaukee High School of the Arts. This opportunity marked the beginning of her long and meaningful impact on education within the Milwaukee community.
A devoted educator, Gail spent many years inspiring and shaping the lives of countless students. Teaching was not just her career but her passion, and she remained deeply committed to helping every student reach their fullest potential. Even after retirement, she returned to the classroom as a substitute teacher, continuing to support, encourage, and uplift students. Her impact as an educator will be remembered for generations.
Above all, she was a loving mother and grandmother. She is survived by her children:
Niivan Bruce-Konuah II,
Lina Bruce-Konuah,
Glenn (Crystal) Bruce-Konuah
Cherished memories remain with her five grandchildren: Emmari, Noah, Parker, Giana, and Xoren.
She leaves behind four sisters and two brothers: Toni Lynette Jamison (California), Yolanda K. Jamison, Donna Renell Dew, and Jean Marie Dew; and her brothers, Lovely Dion Jamison and Dennis Ray Dew, all of Muskegon, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her brother, William Brewster Dew.
