Gabe in late May '22. Cool to see color halation to the sides with layered figures down the middle (but split into two parts). The scar on his forehead was not related to his passing btw. But this picture is so raw, to me, and I like his putting himself out there when he is vulnerable. Then, to get in shape the following months with bike rides to and from work, YMCA swims and the projects.

Music time capsule :)

Dangggg, Gabe, bring it! ;)

My condolences to Gabe's family. I met Gabe at his brother's wedding in San Francisco, and Che connected me with him again when I was planning which countries to travel to in Southeast Asia. Thank you Che and your family for sharing your brother and his beautiful spirit.
Warning to the kiddos & parents... a couple cuss words here & some xlRed-Blue politics as well...but still makes me laugh every time I watch it...

I am so very sorry for our shared loss and I send my heartfelt condolences to Gabe's family, friends and to the world. He has a beautiful soul.

A month ago today I found out that my friend Gabe died. I was standing on a field in Santa Barbara acting as a chaperone for a group of high school kids playing Ultimate, when Sirena called and told me the news. I stood there between two fields, just trying to breathe and feel him.

Gabe is one of my best friends in this lifetime. We had great talks and also silly little ones.  We had our own silly way of greeting each other that always made us laugh.  We met in the late 90s at 'the lair' and stayed close as our lives wove this way and that.

I'm grateful for the way he always supported me … my art, my self-expression, and my fun. One of the biggest things he ever did for me was to support my podcasting. He spent so much time patiently and enthusiastically teaching me all of the tips and tricks he knew. When I got it up and running, he was right there to be a guest and we did a great show. I love how the conversation flows in the episode, like it always flows with Gabe. You can hear the episode on Soundcloud here.

I appreciate that he always let me be his doctor, through so many injuries and illnesses. He shared himself authentically and completely.  What an honor he gave me!

I’ve been listening to a song from my childhood that’s been reminding me of this fucking tragedy. It helps me cry and feel it. It was written by Elton John about his friend John Lennon after he was killed. Here’s a youtube link for you to check out.  https://youtu.be/RDRmDlJtIdU

With love and missing my friend

And Gabe's self-deprecating, admit-when-you-don't-know something humor is too funny. Gabe's range was extensive, i guess this is what happens over 50 years of curiosity and authenticity. He was not perfect :) haha where to begin :). And it's easy to paint over the darker sides of our existence in times like this, I guess. But Gabe soaked up the world around him from his toddler days to January 12th last month and refactored it in ways that were beautiful, validated people he cared for and those he didn't even know in his community. Wow. Nice going, dude.

Gabe in his creative zone. What I like about how Gabe would do it, is how brave he was at painting over stuff. There is something in the surfacing of images and then letting them be overlayed by something new he described his style in the Poet & Painter videos Jamey posted last week. I wanted to share a few videos as they gave me such appreciation for his mind and spirit - maybe his ebb & flow philosophy can help me (us) cope. No need to watch this nearly 30 min video. Other related vids I post are a lot shorter. But some people like me might like to just observe Gabe in his flow. What's even more hilarious is that he'd latched onto ChatGPT recently and had started to run his paintings through algorithm's also on Adobe to generate new variants of his past paintings. So cool to know Gabe's art style can continue in the physical world. Miss you Gabe brother so much, man. Thanks to friends and family for your amazing support and respect paid to Gabe. My parents also have been buttressed by the outreach and stories of their son.

Hey Gabe, remember when you didn’t recognize me in this wig? We danced for a long time and only later you were shocked to discover it was me. You had wondered why this unknown girl was dancing so flirtatiously with you. Your costume was “Orange G”. 😍
