Dearest Friends,
It’s finally here. This Saturday is Gabe’s Celebration at Omni Commons in Oakland.
If you can’t make it, you will be missed and we completely understand. For those of you able to attend, here is a little more information that may help you get ready.
1. Exciting News: Gabe's Family is Coming!
Gabe's amazing parents are coming from Arizona and his Uncle Bill is flying out from New York to be with us and celebrate Gabe. We can't wait for you to meet them.
2. Timing - Arrive at 6:30 Starts at 7
We’re asking people to arrive between 6:30 and 7 so we can get the show started at 7. Please build in extra time to find a parking spot.
3. What to Bring
Under Rebekah’s leadership, we’re building a gorgeous Gabe Altar and if you felt like bringing a flower or two, you can add it to the altar and help us build the magic. Or, print out a photo or something that reminds you of Gabe to add to the Altar. Even a neighborhood flower you grab on the way is just fine.
4. What to Wear
This is an "anything goes" dress code. Be comfortable, dress up, dress down, wear something colorful, Gabe-inspired or not, mostly we just want you feeling good. We expect there to be a full spectrum and you really can’t go wrong… just be happy and love what you’re wearing.
5. Parking
There is only street parking so you’ll want to build in some time to find a spot. There is a Peets’ coffee and Walgreens nearby that have a lot you can try. Oakland (like many post-pandemic cities) has seen an uptick in “smash and grab” car break-ins. Please, Please, Please, don’t leave anything of value in your car and be sure to not leave anything interesting in view from the outside of your cars to avoid broken windows.
6. Food Truck from 8:30-11pm
We will have a food truck parked just outside from 8:30-11pm. Bay Area Munchiez will offer a great option for you to buy food just outside the venue… And then you can bring it inside. They will also have vegan and gluten free options. Also, Omni Commons is in the Temescal area of Oakland and there are great restaurants nearby so come early and eat there and then come over to Omni Commons at 6:30.
7. Drinks / Bar
Beer, wine, yummy cocktails and non-alcohol options as well. Bar opens at 7 and it’s an open bar with the amazing Penny Lane pouring drinks.
8. What to Expect
Arrive at 6:30. Art show and mingling from 7-8. We’ll give folks a chance to talk about Gabe from 8-9. Food truck arrives at 8:30. We have a special surprise from 9-9:45. And then after that, DJ OsEye will be spinning music for us to dance it out. Lastly, Gabe’s celebration will end at midnight.
9. Kid Friendly? Hell yes.
Oh, yes it is. Definitely kid friendly and we all knew what an amazing uncle Gabe was to our kiddos. We see this as an opportunity to show our kids how we do death in our community so if you think your kids are old enough, please bring them. You’ll just have to judge whether an event like this would be interesting to them or not. We can’t promise it’s something young kids would enjoy but teens for sure should join us.
10. Donate, Invite & RSVP - www.gabemott.art
I know I may sound like a broken record here but we’re falling short of our gofundme goal. If you’ve been waiting to donate, this is a perfect time! We also would love it if you posted, on your social media channels and give Gabe’s Celebration a little digital love. ;-)
Thanks so much all!
Love,
Team Gabe
