Our families started getting together for the Super Bowl in 1975, when at that point the Rooney "family" consisted of Lisa and me, a young couple who had been dating for just over a year. Every year we got together, and every year, we would watch teams we had no common interest in, play in THE game. On February 4, 2018 , our Eagles were in the Super Bowl, and the plan was to meet at the Rooney's for, the most important Super Bowl in 43 years! Then around mid day, Mike gives me a call, and he explains to me in a way that only Mike could that we needed to stay in our own homes for this one to give our beloved Birds the best chance of winning. That was Mike's Philly special long before game time, and the rest is history! Mike was the best person to watch a football game with as his annalytical mind saw tendencies that the rest of us (well at least me) didn't see. Sitting next to him was like being in the booth, at the stadium, something I really miss.

Good Memory from Ed Stranix. Mike Davis took Gordon, Bert Stranix and Dan Conner to football training camp at Villanova during the summer. Rumor has it, that was the first step that led to a great football career for Dan Connor in the NFL. Thank you Mike Davis

I just happened to look around in a NPHS page on FB and learned of Mike’s passing this past winter. My sincerest and deepest condolences to you and your family. My then step-dad Walt Ford knew and socialized with a lot of people, but I always remember you and Mike being two of the really nice ones Walt and my mom Nancy would get together with often when I was a kid. I also recall yours & his kind words when Walt passed 8 years ago. I hope you continue to be comforted by years of wonderful memories and the kind words of all the countless students whose lives he enhanced over all his years of teaching.

Loved all the small moments over 40 some years of friendship: Loved watching John and Mike play cards in NH; Loved smelling his pipe when he smoked one; Loved talking with him about all topics he brought his thoughtfulness, intellectual gravity, compassion and humor to; Loved watching him read, deep into a book , magazine or NYTimes; Loved his roar of laughter , as well as his wry chuckle; Loved watching his deep Love for his wife , Ginny , our dear friend over the years and Wherever we were. Loved the 41 (?) Superbowl Sundays in our homes, taking turns year to year. Loved seeing his Love and Pride in Sarah and Gordon over the years of childhood through adulthood. Loved knowing a person of True Integrity. Just Loved him in our years of friendship. You will be deeply missed and Always remembered , Mike.

He was a wonderful man, and I was lucky to have spent a semester teaching with him at Nether Providence High in the spring of 1983, just before the school ceased to be and Strath Haven High was formed. I will always have fond memories of Dr. Davis, Word Power Football, and tacks in the floor to show my students where to line the desks up properly when I shared his classroom for one period each day.
In recent years, it was great to see him at sporting events and share stories of days gone by.

Dr. Davis was among the legends of teachers that blazed an amazing and lasting effect in my memory. He not only taught me the depression era classics (Great Gatsby, Call of the Wild, Grapes of Wrath) but he taught me so many maxims that I tell my children to this day! These idioms include “Ruminate on this,” “a clean desk is a clean mind” and basically, the idea of setting yourself up for greatness! His legacy will live on. He was a wonderful man and a great teacher!

My deepest condolences to the Davis family. Gordon and Sarah, I'm thinking of you in particular as your former teacher. Doc D., as I fondly called him, was a wonderful mentor and confidant to me when I first came to Strath Haven High School in the mid 90's . I will always be grateful for the kindness that he extended to me, particularly given that he had every reason to resent me based on the politics of the time. On the contrary, Doc was a gentleman and showed a warmth to me that was not universally experienced by new arrivals from that veteran staff. He was a great one for a well-timed moment of humor or a pointed piece of advice when you needed it. I'm glad to have known Doc! Thank you, my friend, for showing the way.
