Frederick's obituary

With heavy hearts, we mourn the loss of Frederick "Donnie" Owens, affectionately remembered by many as Donnie, who transitioned to his heavenly home on April 4, 2024. A man of striking humor, a zeal for music, culinary expertise, and neatness, Frederick was a bright light in many lives. His infectious laughter and delicious meals will be missed. Born on October 12, 1959, he lived a life filled with kindness and love that he generously shared with those around him.

Frederick preferred his formal name, but his loving and outgoing personality would always make those around him feel an intimate familiarity and fondness. His heart was almost as big as his knack for music and cooking. He had a way of making every note in a song, and every ingredient in a dish, tell a story that reflected his rich and love-filled life.

Frederick leaves to cherish his memory his former wife, Gabriele Arndt Owens, one son, Christopher Owens and one daughter, Syreeta Owens, all of Frankfurt, Germany. Five siblings: Sheridena Owens Turner of Fairburn, GA, Kevin Fitzgerald Owens, Robin Owens Pittman, Rosalyn LaTonya Owens, all of Fayetteville, NC, Robert Lewis Owens, Jr. (Alesia) of Durham, NC. Three uncles: Troy Louis McMillan (Anita) of Raleigh, NC, David Glenn McMillan of Fayetteville, NC, Selwyn Theophilus McMillan (Sandur) of Hope Mills, NC, and one aunt, Sylvia Cenestra McMillan McPherson of Fayetteville, NC. Also left to cherish his memory is a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and two great nephews and one great niece.

In Junction City, KS, he leaves some very special friends: Brian Hicks, Brian Wiser and Corey Everitte.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Lewis Owens, Sr., Joan McMillan Owens, and his brother Roderick Dennis Owens.

His lessons of being kind to others and minding one's own business have left an indelible mark on all who knew him. His motto was simple, yet profound, and he lived by it, creating a legacy of kindness and love that will continue to inspire and guide us.

Frederick's loss creates a void that can never be filled, but the memories he left behind will keep him alive in our hearts. His laughter, his talent as a chef, his love for music, and his neatness, all blend into a unique legacy that is the life of Frederick "Donnie" Owens. He will forever be remembered, forever missed, and his teachings will forever guide those he left behind.
