Frederick's obituary
REMEMBERING PROPHET FREDERICK ALEXANDER NANCE
On April 29, 1953, in Chicago, Illinois, Frederick Alexander Nance was born to the late James and Ora Nance. He grew up in Altgeld Gardens in a large and lively family as the fifth of eight children: Bernice, Salim (deceased), Charles (deceased), Vicky, David, Windelin (deceased) and Ora, where laughter, lessons and love were always close by.
Fred’s curiosity for how things worked led him to pursue a career in electronics. After graduating from Robert Lindblom Technical High School, he studied at Allied Institute of Technology. During that time, he started working for the United States Postal Service (USPS), where his skills eventually led to a promotion as an Electronic Technician (ET) at the Bulk Mail Center in Forest Park, Illinois, following a specialized and intense training program in Norman, Oklahoma. In 2005, Fred retired from the Postal Service to go into full-time ministry.
Fred’s life was about much more than work; it was about faith. He gave his heart to Christ at a young age. At the age of 13, he prayed boldly for a wife, not just a girlfriend. God answered that prayer. At the age of 19, he married the love of his life, Margo P. Winfrey on June 17, 1972. Together they shared 53 years of marriage and reared two beautiful daughters. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a doting grandfather.
Prophet Fred Nance’s walk with Christ defined everything he did. He was an avid student of the Word of God, a Soul Winner, a teacher and prayer warrior. At Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, he was a choir director, Deacon and President of the Young Peoples Christian Society (YPCS). He was a Board Member, and Sunday School Teacher at Southside Worship Center. During which time he was a member of the Postal Lights Ministry. Fred served as an Associate Pastor of Westside Tabernacle, Praise and Worship Leader, and Sunday School Teacher. While there he acquired his licensure as a Chaplain for Cook County Hospital. Fred and his family joined Ambassador Church (formerly known as New Heritage Christian Center and Chicago Embassy Church). There he served as an intercessor and counselor. He co-led and was recognized for exceptional innovative contributions in the Bible Academy, Evangelism, Men’s Fellowship, Small Groups, Staff Pastor and Valentine Outreach Ministries. In April 2009, he was ordained and installed as Prophet. To know Prophet Fred was to encounter the gospel. Whether in a pulpit, witnessing in the neighborhood, in the market place, or on his job, he always found a way to share the good news of Jesus Christ. Fred was instrumental in launching the first prayer breakfast at the McDonald’s restaurant in the Woodlawn community, as a member of the church’s Plant Team Ministry. It was a simple yet powerful gathering that continues today. His life was an example of Romans 1:16, “For I am NOT ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ for it is the power of God unto salvation”.
He recognized that his first ministry was his family whom he affectionally called the “Ten Transformers”. Fred and his family vacationed several times a year. He and Margo also spent time traveling around the world. Fred truly was an all-around man who enjoyed life to the fullest.
On Sunday, August 10, 2025, Prophet Fred peacefully departed this life in his sleep. He leaves behind a legacy of faith, family and love. His memory will live on through his wife, Dr. Margo; his daughters Tara (Terrell), Danah (D’Wayne), his grandchildren, Yusef, Judah, Dëdryk and Dänai; his siblings, Bernice, Vicky (James (deceased)),David (Gwendolyn(deceased)), Ora (Keith); his sister-in-law, Khadijah (Salim (deceased)); and a host of nieces, nephews, family and lifelong friends.
Prophet Fred’s life was a testament of faith and love. Though he will be deeply missed, his impact continues.
