Frederick's obituary

Frederick McDonald, born on the 23rd of November 1965, left us too soon on the 20th of August 2021. He was a man of tremendous spirit, a beacon of warmth, affection, and charm. Fred was blessed with a wonderful sense of humor and a remarkable green thumb, a trait he inherited from his dear mother. His personality radiated generosity of spirit, which touched everyone he met.

Fred is survived by his siblings, Darrell McDonald and Tammy McDonald, his niece, Jessica McDonald, his nephew, Derrell McDonald, and his aunts, Willie Mae McDonald and Georgianna McDonald. He was predeceased by his beloved mother, Ethel McDonald, and father, Jessie McDonald.

An alumnus of Mergenthaler High School, Fred graduated in 1982 and carried with him the spirit of his alma mater throughout his life. He had a voracious appetite, relishing all kinds of food, and was particularly fond of Ice Tea.

Fred's diverse interests encompassed everything from the historical tales in the book 'Great Black Leaders: Ancient and Modern' to enjoying the melodious music of Anita Baker, Nat King Cole, Natalie Cole, Mariah Carey, and Luther Vandross. Among his favourite TV shows was 'Sanford and Son', and he was an avid fan of the movie 'Kill Bill'. His appreciation for art was evident in his admiration for the works of Monet.

A staunch supporter of the Baltimore Ravens, Fred also enjoyed all kinds of puzzles. His favorite recreational activity was reading, and he treasured his walks. He held a particular fondness for vacationing at Myrtle Beach and cherished the local atmosphere of Fridays at Monument Square.

Fred was fiercely passionate about equality for all. His favorite color was blue, reflecting his calm and composed personality. His life mantra was simple and profound, "Be yourself, respect others, and have God in your heart." He championed this belief by overcoming his addiction to drugs and becoming a respected drug counselor, helping others find their path to sobriety.

Fred leaves behind a legacy defined by kindness and generosity. His magnanimity and strength of character will be dearly missed by his beloved 'Nana Squad'. His life was a testament to the power of love, resilience, and compassion, and his spirit will continue to inspire and guide us.
