Frederick's obituary
Frederick W. Fanter, age 77, loving father of three, and devoted husband, passed peacefully on the morning of December 22nd. Fred was born on February 3rd, 1948, in East Germany, and immigrated to America in 1956 with his mother, father, and younger brother.
In his youth, Fred developed a talent for wrestling, boxing, shooting, and a passion for horsepower and mechanics, hunting, and fishing that would accompany him through the rest of his life.
Frederick found purpose and reward in his longstanding career as a Leader Lineman for Cleveland Public Power, where he worked tirelessly for 37 years before retiring in 2013. After retirement Fred’s inability to be sedentary inspired him to assume the position of Fleet Captain at his beloved Bay Boat Club, where he made many new friends whom he cherished.
Fred’s physical presence on this earth will be outlived by the impact he made on those who were blessed to know him. He lived his life unapologetically true to his belief in respect and sense of responsibility. His love of teaching, storytelling, and lending a helping hand will define his legacy and he will be remembered as he would have wanted; for his quiet strength, blunt honesty, infallible values, devotion to friend and family, endless flannel collection, and famous chicken noodle soup.
Frederick filled his heart with his pride for his family. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Karla, his three children; Nadine, Fred Jr, and Ericka, and brother Guny.
A celebration of life will be held locally at a later date for friends and family wishing to reminisce and share their memories of a life well lived.
