Freda's obituary
Freda C Davenport of Yukon, OK moved peacefully onto her Heavenly home early in the morning of Thursday, September 15, 2022. She is survived by her daughter Cheryl Nall and son-in-law Dennis Nall and grandsons Conner and Hunter Nall; daughter Ashley Davenport and James Dowdy and Ashley's children Angela, Joseph, and Emma. Other surviving family members include her brother James Fear and sister-in-law, Pamela Fear, and sister-in-law Carol Schlecht. She also leaves behind four nieces, Erin Fear Parker, Dana Fear, Reanna Schlecht Bell, Kirstin Schlecht Pliska and her nephew Adam Fear. Freda is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph F. Davenport, her parents Frederick & Gladys Fear, and her grandparents on both sides.
Freda graduated high school in 1969 in Hopewell, VA. She then moved on to Springfield, MO where she would attend Missouri State University (then known as Southwest Missouri State University) and graduated with a degree in Early Childhood education. She enjoyed a long teaching career where she met and mentored numerous people. In her early teaching days she taught in Billings, MO and Willard, MO until she eventually secured a position teaching for Springfield Public Schools. While over her career she taught every grade K-6th, the majority of her time was spent in her Kindergarten class at Sequiota Elementary in Springfield, MO . Her passion for her students could easily be seen by the boxes and boxes of classroom decorations and the thousand of hours spent at home preparing her lesson plans, bulletin boards, gradebooks , and everything else that goes along with educating young minds.
In addition to her love of teaching, Freda loved being a sister, aunt, wife, mother, and Nana. Her family was always on her mind and held one of the biggest pieces of her heart. Her compassion, gentle spirit, and ornery sense of humor are character traits to be emulated.
An avid Kansas City Chiefs fan, she always enjoyed watching the Chiefs play and decorating her world with all kinds of Chiefs memorabilia. In spite of her move to Oklahoma over the past year, she carried her love of the Chiefs with her. There was no question in anyone's mind which team Freda would be cheering for on Sundays.
Even though her family, students, and chiefs were immensely important to Freda, they did not compare to her love of the Lord. Through hardships and trials, her faith remained steady. It gave her the joy that people saw from her and she was not shy about telling you. In the last few months of her life, Freda kept trying to share that joy with all of the staff at her nursing home. She would even write cheerful messages and scriptures on her menus for the staff to read. Everyone loved getting a chance to speak her.
While she may have been known by many different names (Sis, Momma, Aunt, Nana, Fred, and even "Freedy" -just to name a few) everyone knew her to be a creative, fun-loving, humorous, compassionate soul. Most of all, she will be remembered for the unconditional love she gave to everyone who crossed her path. Momma, you will be missed greatly.
Freda will be remembered publicly on Saturday, September 24, 2022 at Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Springfield, MO . Visitation with the family will begin at 10:15 AM and the service will follow at 11:00 AM.
