Fred's obituary
Roger was born on the 16th of September, 1934 in Puerto Corinto, Nicaragua to Horacio Zelaya Valle and Paula Maclovia Aragón Rivas. He married the love of his life, Aura Lila Reyes on the 16th of May 1953. The couple remained inseparable through 65 years of marriage until his passing. Roger was one of 14 children and was taught at an early age the value of hard work and the blessing that is family.
Roger was one of the early pioneers of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Nicaragua. He helped build the Kingdom of God among the people of Nicaragua through his faithful service and diligence. He became the first Melchizedek priesthood holder and branch president in Nicaragua serving the Lord with his heart, might, mind, and strength.
At the age of 40, Roger began his education at the University of Texas Irvine. Roger taught himself English while attending college and graduated with a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Finance. He accepted a position with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Finance Department at the headquarters in Salt Lake City, Utah. He and his family moved to Salt Lake City in May of 1994, where he worked until his retirement in 2002. Roger was devoted to his Heavenly Father and his family. He was passionate about classical music, photography, computers, and traveling.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Paula Maclovia, his father, Horacio, his sister, Martha Zelaya, and older brother, Manfredo Aragón. Roger is survived by his beloved wife, Aura Lila Zelaya Reyes, 10 children: Merlyn Zelaya; Roger {Janet} Zelaya; Norman {Martha} Zelaya; Raquel Zelaya; Yader {Meky} Zelaya; Ruth Elena Burbidge; Aura Lila {Robert} Zelaya; Luz Maria Zelaya; Carmen {Jeral} Lowe; Ericka Soto: and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.
A public viewing will be held on Saturday, June 2nd, 2018 at the LDS Meeting House located at 6500 South Dixie Drive West Jordan, UT 84084 between 9:00am and 10:00am. Funeral services will begin at 10:15 am.
