Frank's obituary

Frank Wright, number one grandpa, father, brother, part time Santa, full time joke teller, and hard-working electrician, passed away on Sunday, September 13th, 2020.

Frank was born on July 21, 1933 to Edna and Frank W Wright in Liverpool, England. It was at an early age after the war ended in 1945, that he went to work as an Apprentice Electrician at the age of 12. After studying for 9 years, and on the date of his 21st birthday, Frank became an Electrician. He was drafted as a soldier of the Queen shortly after and served for two years, both in England and Germany.

In 1957, Frank immigrated from England to the United States by way of New York, but soon made his way across the country with the travel bug that was always instilled in him. With $88 in his pocket, he hitchhiked his way down the west coast from Washington to Lake Tahoe, Nevada in search of work as an Electrician. Frank is known for his electrical construction on the 1960 Squaw Valley Olympics, most of the bigger casinos in Reno which include the Silver Legacy, the Eldorado, Grand Sierra Resort (just to name a few), as well as the Valmy and Tracy power-plants. Frank was a proud brother of the IBEW Electrical Workers Union Local 401.

When Frank retired, he became a new role as everyone’s favorite Poppa, from delivering donut holes to classrooms, teaching students how to build rockets, filling in as Santa on an occasion, and being there as every friend's bonus Grandpa too. He dedicated his time to helping his grandchildren and taking them on trips to see the world, as well as being on the Reno Police Department’s senior volunteer program SAVE as their resident Barney Fife. Many of his favorite Saturdays were spent at University of Nevada, Reno games as a security guard during the football season with all of his SAVE partners.

Frank will always be remembered for his quick wit, dirty jokes, his love for the San Francisco 49ers and whiskey, old songs his mother used to sing, and for all the smiles and laughter he brought daily. He is survived by his sister Olive, best friend Marjorie, step-daughter Theresa, grandchildren Melissa, Shane, MacKenzie, Alicia, and Brian, and great-grandchildren Madison, Paris, Emma, Roman, LilliAnn, Brooklyn, Hanna, MaryLou, and MadiLyn. Luv u Luv u Luv u!
