Frank's obituary
November 27,1932 - April 9, 2019
Frank Castro Torres passed away April 9 at his home in Sonora surrounded by his family. Frank was born November 27, 1932, in Sacramento, CA. After attending school in Tucson, AZ, Frank joined the Navy and served honorably from 1949-54. He served in Korea as an Electrician’s Mate where he fulfilled the role of a diver, starting a love affair with the sea. He returned to Tucson and attended the University of Arizona where he met his wife, Elvia. They married in 1959 and started a family while he continued to attend school and completed his civil engineering degree in 1966. After graduating, Frank worked for Guy F Atkinson Construction in San Mateo, Tualatin (Oregon), and San Diego. In 1976 the family moved to Sonora, following his transfer in late 1975 to the New Melones Powerhouse Project. He subsequently worked on the Ontario Airport expansion, commuting while his family remained in the Sonora home that he and Elvia built. He later worked for Calaveras and Tuolumne counties until he retired in 1995.
Frank enjoyed playing racquetball, watching the Giants and 49ers, traveling with Elvia to coastal destinations and spending time with his beloved family.
Frank is survived by Elvia, his wife of 60 years; his five children Ylianna, Frank, Kiki, Rich, and Robert; three women who were lucky enough to call him father-in-law: Jenny (Frank), Lucy (Kiki) and Donni (Rich); and his 8 beloved grandchildren: Joseph, Alyssa, Marisa, Michael, Carter, Marco, Frankie and Mateo. He was also survived by 3 of his 6 siblings, Edwina Warsco, Humberto Torres, and Cecilia Zawada and many nieces and nephews.
Frank’s good nature, loving kindness, and great sense of humor will be missed by all that knew him. Those who were left behind know his hearty laugh is ringing through heaven right now. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Hospice of Sonora.
