Frank's obituary
Frank Joseph Pitetti Jr.
September 5, 1969 – January 12, 2026
Frank Joseph Pitetti Jr., age 56, passed away unexpectedly on January 12, 2026, at his home.
Frank was born on September 5, 1969, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Helene Matunis Pitetti and Frank Pitette (born Pitetti), who preceded him in death. Family was central to Frank’s life from the very beginning, and his love and respect for his mother—known lovingly to many as Granny—remained constant throughout his life.
At a young age, Frank and his father moved to Florida, where Frank spent his formative years and attended Coastal Middle & High School in Lake Park, Florida. From early on, he was drawn to challenge, responsibility, and the water. Fishing was not simply a pastime for Frank—it was a lifelong passion and a place of peace. Whether catching crab or lobster by hand, working lines and nets, or preparing fresh catch into homemade sushi, Frank felt most at home on or near the water.
Frank proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, enlisting in 1990 and serving honorably until 1998. He joined with the intent to serve as a grunt, and his assignment to Marine Security Forces, including service aboard CVN-71, the USS Theodore Roosevelt, reflected both his capability and his natural alignment with discipline, security, and maritime environments. He served as an infantry Marine and rose to the rank of Sergeant, holding leadership roles including fire team leader, squad leader, platoon sergeant, and weapons and tactics instructor at the School of Infantry. Frank was respected for his calm leadership, technical proficiency, and dedication to training and mentoring others.
Following his military service, Frank continued a life of service through a long and respected career in law enforcement. He began with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, followed by the Hemet Police Department, and later the Murrieta Police Department. Across these agencies, Frank served in patrol, gang and narcotics investigations, and specialized enforcement roles. He was a SWAT element leader, patrol supervisor, traffic bureau supervisor, field training officer, and POST-certified instructor, shaping and guiding countless officers throughout his career.
During his time with the Hemet Police Department, Frank helped establish the department’s Honor/Color Guard, an assignment he held in particularly high regard. To Frank, the Color Guard represented respect, tradition, discipline, and brotherhood—values he carried throughout his life.
On November 7, 1991, Frank married the love of his life, Nguyen Thi Thuy-Mai “Crystal” Pitetti. Their marriage spanned more than 34 years and was rooted in loyalty, partnership, and deep love. Together, they raised their son, Christopher James Pitetti, who was the center of Frank’s world and his greatest pride.
In retirement, Frank found his happiest chapter as Captain. As the owner and Captain of Ironclad Sportfishing, he combined decades of leadership and discipline with warmth, patience, and genuine care for others. Holding a United States Coast Guard 100-ton Captain’s license, Frank built Ironclad into more than a business—it became a place where families, children, first-time anglers, seasoned fishermen, veterans, and fellow officers felt safe, welcomed, and valued. His impeccable reviews reflected a man who treated people right, taught without judgment, and created memories that lasted long after the trip ended.
Through fishing, Frank formed some of his closest bonds, including with his lifelong friend Tim Dillion, known to many as “Limbo.” Their friendship became family, and Frank chose Tim as Christopher’s godfather, a reflection of trust, loyalty, and brotherhood.
Frank was also a devoted animal lover and caretaker. Over the years, he shared his life with many beloved pets, including dogs Daisy, Bear, Hunter, Tuffy, Ginger, Spike, Max, Tiger, Lucy, Coco, and Lulu, as well as chickens, ducks, a rabbit, turtles, hamsters, and birds. His home was always filled with life, care, and responsibility.
Frank is survived by his wife, Nguyen Thi Thuy-Mai “Crystal” Pitetti; his son, Christopher James Pitetti; and his beloved mother, Helene Matunis Pitetti, known lovingly to many as Granny.
He is also survived by his three sisters: Suzanne Rich, and her children Jeanette Rich and Tommy Rich; Denise, and her children Josh Haley and Ashley Haley; and Antoinette, and her children Kyle Wood and Justin Wood.
Frank is further survived by extended family, lifelong friends, and a wide community of Marines, law-enforcement officers, anglers, colleagues, and chosen family whose lives he touched through service, mentorship, friendship, and shared experience.
Frank valued family above all else, and each of these relationships held deep meaning in his life.
Frank Joseph Pitetti Jr. lived with discipline, integrity, loyalty, and quiet strength. He served honorably, led responsibly, and loved fully. His legacy lives on in his family, in those he trained and protected, in the brotherhoods he stood beside, and in the water where he found his greatest peace.
Service details and honors will be shared as arrangements are finalized.
