Frankie's Story
My son passed away, and we were not notified of his death. So the county just threw him in the ground. We never got to have a proper service, and I am unable to work right now, so I do not have money for a headstone.
Hi, my sister-in-law Samantha wrote the paragraph above. I wanted to share some of the familys story with you so you can understand the difficulty and heartbreak that she and the family are going through and why this fundraiser is so important to us.
Frankie was a kind-hearted, happy go lucky, always smiling, and willing to give the shirt off his back kind of guy. He was born on February 13, 1990, and was the oldest of 5 children. They were not only close in age but very close to one another. Always having each other's back and helping with whatever was needed.
Frankie would usually check in every couple of weeks. Always on a special occasion, holiday, or someone's birthday. He hadn't been heard from in a longer time period than normal. This began to alert his mom and siblings. Concern grew, Samantha and his sister Melissa reached out to Frankie's girlfriend. She said she had not seen him in a while and that she had filed a missing person report in Patterson, NJ, where he stayed with her and her father.
Time passed, months went by, then a year. 2 years, still nothing. No word about Frankie from anyone anywhere. A missing person flier was made and passed around the internet, still without any word about Frankie. There was some chatter that he was seen in Patterson (we now know that was definitely not true). We were told a report had been filed and still weren't hearing about or finding him. We needed someone somewhere to take this seriously and help us find him. More months passed, and on December 21, 2022, Samantha went to file a missing person report because there was nothing else she could do. While the officer is inputting information into the computer, he comes across Frankie. Unfortunately, it was not news that we were hoping to get once we found him, but the officer said the devastating words. Our Frankie was deceased and had been for quite some time. He was pronounced dead on February 4th, 2020 @ 2:35am. They said he was on a sidewalk in Paterson unresponsive and taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. He had been in the system, so they were able to get his name (although we don't even know if he had an ID or wallet on him at the time). Regardless, they knew who he was yet failed to notify the family! How is this possible?!?? They said they called a number that was listed. They did not try to find any other information for family members, but he was in the system, I'm sure there were names of a person or 2! How can they say they had no other persons to contact? I'm sure if it were for a warrant, they could find family members. We live in an age of minimal privacy. How can a medical examiner who works for a huge city like Patterson NJ not have the ability to access personal information?
They had a home address already at their fingertips. They didn't even have to search for it. A phone call to that towns police department asking them to check if the family still resided there was never made. How can professional persons' as those in the city of Patterson not think, and / or do such a thing for a deceased person? That would be logical, yes???? But NO, not a call to town police, or any effort whatsoever to give this son, brother, cousin, nephew, uncle, friend a chance to rest in peace.
In the meantime, he had family worrying about him. The city of Patterson, I guess, sent Frankie to be buried in a Bakers plot (I believe it's called), which is a cemetery for John and Jane Does and people with no family. He was buried in an unmarked grave alone, even though he had so many loved ones who were praying and worrying about him. Why? Who got to make this decision on behalf of an entire family? A decision that was not theirs to make. They had information to contact and notify someone in Frankie's family so he could be laid to rest properly. So his family could have begun the process of accepting that Frankie was gone from their lives. But someone chose not to for whatever selfish reasons, which brings us here.
Frankie and his family deserve to have some closure on this nightmare. I know that a headstone and a memorial, will not make things better, but it will help the family know that they did right by him, gave him his name back, and celebrated his life, while bringing back memories of happier times.
Thank you for taking the time to read some of Frankie's story. If you are able to help with a donation, it would be greatly appreciated. Any amount helps, we all know that it is very tight, so please know how much it means to us for any gift. If you can't give a donation, we understand and would appreciate kind words and prayers. Thank you again for taking the time to read about our Frankie. Contribute
