Background
Francisco suffered from a very rare condition known as calciphylaxis. It is caused by a buildup of calcium in the small veins of the body that typically results in very painful skin lesions. It has a mortality rate of 50% in the first 6 months.
Very little research is being done on this condition due to its rarity, but for those who suffer from it, it often leads to a very debilitating and painful end.
Massachusetts General, in conjunction with Harvard University, is one of the few institutions which is researching the condition and actively involved in test trials.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to help research into preventing this condition or provide meaningful treatments to those who suffer from it. Contribute
