Francisca Celsa dos Santos, 116, passed away on October 5, 2021, in Fortaleza, Ceará, Brazil, due to pneumonia. She was born as Francisca dos Santos in Cascavel, Ceará, Brazil, on October 21, 1904, to Raimundo Gertrudes dos Santos and Maria Antonia do Espirito Santo. Before 1935, she married Raimundo Celso (1905–1979). They had a total of 6 children.

Celsa dos Santos was not only the oldest verified Brazilian of all time and the eleventh-oldest person of all time, but she was also the oldest verified Latin American person of all time at the age of 116 years and 349 days. One day before she died, she surpassed the age of María Capovilla of Ecuador (1889-2006) to become the oldest person in Latin America.
