Obituary for Apostle (Dr.) Francis Dezie Nwobu

Apostle (Dr.) Francis Dezie Nwobu, a devoted servant of God, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and esteemed patriarch, transitioned peacefully into glory on April 20, 2026.

Born with a deep sense of purpose and a heart inclined toward God, Apostle Nwobu lived a life marked by unwavering faith, integrity, and service to humanity. He answered the call of God early and dedicated his life to ministry, becoming a vessel through whom many encountered the transforming power of Jesus Christ. His apostolic grace and leadership impacted countless lives across nations, as he faithfully preached the Gospel, raised leaders, and strengthened the body of Christ.

Apostle Nwobu was also a man of remarkable academic achievement. He earned a degree in Petroleum Engineering from University of Tulsa and later obtained a Ph.D. in Intercultural Studies from Biola University. He carried both spiritual depth and intellectual excellence, embodying a rare balance of faith and scholarship.

He was the founder of African Missionary Foundation, a vision dedicated to advancing the Gospel through missions, and also founded Pastors Without Borders, a ministry committed to training, equipping, and supporting young and emerging pastors across Nigeria. His life’s work was distinguished by his passion for church planting, the training and mentoring of emerging young ministers, and extensive missions work. He labored tirelessly to advance the Gospel across Nigeria and the United States, equipping leaders and establishing communities of faith that continue to thrive today. His commitment to raising the next generation of ministry leaders remains one of his most enduring legacies.

He was ordained as a Pastor and later as an Apostle under the spiritual authority and guidance of the late Archbishop Benson Idahosa and Bishop Winston Iwo, a defining affirmation of his divine calling and apostolic assignment.

In addition to his apostolic ministry, Apostle Nwobu served faithfully for many years as a chaplain, ministering in both prisons and hospitals. In these roles, he brought hope, comfort, and the message of salvation to countless individuals during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. His compassion and dedication to service reflected the heart of Christ, reaching beyond the pulpit into places often overlooked.

Apostle Nwobu was widely respected for his wisdom, humility, and steadfast commitment to truth. He carried a father’s heart, nurturing, guiding, and empowering those entrusted to him. His life reflected spiritual depth, discipline, compassion, and a relentless pursuit of God’s will.

Beyond ministry, he was a loving and devoted family man. He is survived by his dear wife of 45 years, Pastor (Prof.) Clara Nwobu; his children: Mr Emmanuel Nwobu, Mrs Goodness Folasakin, Mrs Ebubé Adeyanju, and Mr Emeka Nwobu; his sons-in-law: Mr John Folasakin and Mr Damilola Adeyanju; his daughter-in-law: Mrs Makepeace Nwobu; and his cherished grandchildren: Tamilore Folasakin, Zipporah Nwobu, Tobi Folasakin, Tomi Folasakin, Zion-Asher Adeyanju, Zephaniah Adeyanju, and Praise Nwobu. He is also survived by many adopted and spiritual children who were blessed by his fatherly covering and guidance.

Though our hearts are heavy with his passing, we rejoice in the assurance of eternal life and the glorious hope we have in Christ. We celebrate a life well lived, poured out in service to God and humanity. His impact will continue to echo through generations, and his works follow him.

Apostle (Dr.) Francis Dezie Nwobu will be deeply missed but fondly remembered as a general of faith, a father to many, and a true servant of the Most High God.

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”

— 2 Timothy 4:7
