Obituary for Francis Albert Bezaire
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Francis Albert Bezaire, a cherished war hero, loving father, and devoted husband. Francis passed away peacefully on May 22, 2022, at the age of 97, surrounded by his family and loved ones.
Francis was born on July 3, 1924, in Montreal, Quebec, and spent his formative years in Amherstburg, Ontario. His childhood was filled with adventure and curiosity, traits that would serve him well in the years to come.
At the young age of 18, Francis enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II. His exceptional skills as a pilot earned him the nickname "The Whisper," a testament to his unparalleled ability to fly undetected and execute missions with remarkable stealth and precision. His bravery and dedication were instrumental in numerous successful operations, and his legacy as a war hero is etched in the annals of history.
After the war, Francis returned to Amherstburg, where he met and married the love of his life, Margaret (née Watson). Together, they built a loving home and raised three children: David, Susan, and Michael. Francis was a dedicated father and a role model to his children, always instilling in them the values of courage, integrity, and kindness.
Francis had a passion for aviation that extended beyond his military service. He spent many years as a commercial pilot, sharing his love of flight with countless passengers and colleagues. In his retirement, he enjoyed building model airplanes, volunteering at the local aviation museum, and sharing his wartime stories with younger generations.
Francis is survived by his wife of 73 years, Margaret; his children, David (Linda), Susan (Paul), and Michael (Nancy); his grandchildren, Emily, Sarah, James, and Olivia; and his great-grandchildren, Ethan and Lily. He is also fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
A funeral service will be held at St. John’s Anglican Church in Amherstburg on May 28, 2022, at 11:00 AM, followed by a burial with full military honors at the Amherstburg War Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum, ensuring Francis' passion for aviation and history continues to inspire future generations.
Francis "The Whisper" Thompson will be deeply missed but never forgotten. His life was a testament to bravery, love, and unwavering dedication. May he rest in peace.
