Frances's obituary
Frances Louise Norman Vickrey, 84, of Prescott Valley, AZ, ascended Heaven's stairway on May 29, 2025. Born on August 29, 1940, Frances was a beacon of faith, learning, and love. She married Ed Vickrey in 1955, building a life of devotion and service. A dedicated mother, she inspired her four children-Daniel Vickrey, Pamela Vickrey Plumley, and the late Raymond (1978) and Timothy (2022)—with her love of reading and lifelong learning. She leaves behind son-in-law Rick Plumley, daughter-in-law Melinda Carragher Vickrey, brother Pastor Bill Norman, and sister JoAnn Norman Sanders. Widowed in November 2011, she was preceded in death by Ed.
Among the first seven graduates of Prescott's 1971 Nursing Program, Frances served as a hospital and ER head nurse, home health provider, and LaMaze instructor. With a theology degree and minister's license, she and Ed (who was also a licensed minister) ministered to Native American communities in the early 1960s, were houseparents in the early 1960s at Sunshine Acres Children's Home in Mesa, AZ, often co-pastored with friends Rita and Don Jordon, held prison services with Daniel and Pamela in the early-mid 1980s.
Frances, using her Master's in Counseling, became an associate pastor at Living Faith Church. Frances & Ed nurtured their children's musical talents, creating cherished memories of music ministry together, even traveling as children’s evangelists in the mid-1970s.
Known for her political savvy and wit, Frances loved life. To demonstrate her perseverance, she once sang through a moth flying into her mouth during a night time prison service, earning laughter and applause from all.
Her legacy endures through her 11 grandchildren and 15+ great grandkids.
