Here is Rabbi Aviva Fellman's eulogy for Frances: THE UNFINISHED SYMPHONY OF LIFE" --

In the world of music there is one symphony which is quite different from all the rest. The conventional symphony has three, four, or perhaps five movements, but there is a symphony that has only one movement. The reason is that the composer Franz Schubert never finished it. Schubert wrote the first movement, put it away in his drawer, and before he could finish it, he died. Hence its name: The Unfinished Symphony.

Though Franz Schubert did not have the privilege of finishing his symphony, the entire world is the richer, in that it possesses this wonderful piece of music. For despite the fact that it breaks off before it is complete, it is nonetheless, a masterpiece.

An unfinished life is, in many ways, like an unfinished symphony. There is a feeling of deep regret that we are not privileged to have seen that life lived to the fullest, to have had the time to solidify relationships. At the same time, we feel that it is far better to have had the few years granted to us, than to have nothing at all. The passing of Frances Katz leaves us sad at the thought of the unfinished and lost years, but grateful for the wonderful memories of a life that was nonetheless a masterpiece.

Part of a large family with 17 first cousins, Frances was the only child born to Harry and Matilda Katz. She had a close relationship to her parents and as an only child, she was encouraged and supported to be independent and chase her dreams. She was a wicked Smaht, phenomenal woman who was a strong introvert (even among her closest friends) and loved existing in the center of the action but couldn’t always thrive there without the ability to retreat and recover. She was from Leominster but always said that she was from Boston. A graduate of Boston University and Harvard, and later New England School of Law, she found her niche and followed her heart- both academically and career-wise. And she was never running FROM anything but rather she was running or moving TO the next challenge and adventure. As Ted Lasso, the protagonist in the similarly titled show, which was one of her favorites stated, "Taking on a challenge is a lot like riding a horse, isn't it? If you're comfortable while you're doing it, you're probably doing it wrong." Starting in journalism, her interests, passions, and her tendency to look for and chase an opportunity led her to New York City- a place that had a strong pull for her, Atlanta, and even traveling all over the world. She was one of the first to explore and delve into the cultural impact of this new thing known as the internet and used her skills, talents, and interests to write and represent a very broad range of topics-settling in Georgia and writing mostly on books, television, food, culture, and travel. She also wrote about legal and ethical issues and was a self-described fierce liberal who used her legal education to help some of the good guys win.

In a blog or article that was published on Catapult[1], Frances wrote about the trip that she took to Tibet while in Law School with, in her words, a “ragtag group of students, backpackers, and eat-pray-love types.” Her language is beautiful, descriptive, and pulls the reader into picturing and even smelling the scene. She writes about being drawn to an old monk and “Somehow I knew he wanted to give me a blessing for a journey that was bigger than the two day journey back to Beijing or even the eventual journey back to America. So I closed my eyes and let him hug me. It was a warm fatherly hug, nurturing and reassuring. The kind of hug a monk would give to a member of his flock — if monks have flocks but I don’t think they do. His hands were warm. The air smelled like smoke and sweet incense. The stars were in a strange pattern in the sky. I could hear the whirring and clicking of the camera, and the sounds of many murmured prayers inside the Temple. Even now, when I close my eyes, I can remember the monk’s kind face and his open arms.

And yes, at that moment, I knew that I had already been blessed.”

Frances lived a blessed life. She was proud of her Judaism and Jewish heritage and was a life-long seeker for truth and spirituality. While not always close to her large biological family in Georgia, she developed a sisterhood of close friends, and a larger circle of community to, they were her adoptive family. She was like an aunt to their children and helped them to soar and reach for their dreams, something that she recognized she was able to do too. As the Beatles sang to poignantly;

While Frances’ life was far too short, she lived her life fully and we are honoring her today by ensuring that she is buried near her dear parents. Here is the tribute for the graveside service written by Tammy Joyner and Diane Lore: Many of the people who took the time to be here today did not know Frances well. But we hope it brings comfort to you that Frances collected and nurtured friends from Georgia to California - whether online or in person.
She is unforgettable.
Leominster/Boston was her hometown; New York was her spiritual home; and Paris was her aspirational home. But she slowly adopted Atlanta, making it her own. 
For several of us, Frances was family. We were sisters - and Frances embraced our children as her nieces and nephews. She often gave them pep talks when parents were annoying. She could hold her own with our Millennials and Gen Zers when we couldn’t - talking tech, music, sneakers, and a changing society that we struggled to fathom. She was the aunt who dispensed advice and stretched the boundaries of what the parents would allow. 
She loved people’s fur babies with equal adoration. Cats - including Henry and Grady, dogs - Shelley, Buddy, Archie, Yuki and Zeus -  several guinea pigs, and a macaw will miss her. And her holiday treats. She loved to feed the dogs Cheerios. 
Thanksgiving was her favorite holiday - something she and her mom shared. Of course, she didn’t celebrate Christmas, but she joined in with equal enthusiasm for her own traditions, including potato latkas and a collection of menorahs and dreidels. She was always fond of gift-giving during the holiday season. One year, she gave beautiful, custom ornaments. Another year, she knitted gloves.  
Frances always knew the hottest trends and spots. Once, she won a multi-course dinner for 10 of her closest friends. It was a meal to mark the ages.The chef even came out and talked to Frances personally, and everyone left with a cutting board in the shape of Georgia. All of us still have the boards.
A self-described introvert, it didn’t stop Frances from being intellectually inquisitive about all things. It didn’t stop her from going back to school to become a lawyer. It also didn’t stop her from taking solo trips to China, Paris, Martha’s Vineyard, and the Georgia coast.
Frances also was keenly aware of human behavior, finding humor in people’s kindness and quirks. She referred to her most recent client as “Saint Boss.” She also had pet names for her friends - and enemies.
She was a wholly-formed “wise woman,” even belonging to a Facebook group of the same name. She knew and accepted the consequences of the choices she made.  She was a woman of conviction.
She was a sister to many of us who didn’t have sisters.  She made our lives more complete. We will miss her.

She was a wholly-formed “wise woman,” even belonging to a Facebook group of the same name. She knew and accepted the consequences of the choices she made. She was a woman of conviction.
She was a sister to many of us who didn’t have sisters. She made our lives more complete. We will miss her.
