Flo's obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Florencia "Flo" Sadoy, who left us on July 6, 2024. Born on October 4, 1948, Flo was a woman of intelligence, sarcasm, and spirit, widely known for her expansive and eclectic tastes in music and literature.
Flo is survived by her daughters, Amber and Erika Sadoy, and her grandsons, River, Lawrence, and Tenzin. She also leaves behind her granddaughters, Akira Neuhaus and Gracie. Her nieces, Amy Portello Nelson, Melanie Von, Samantha Portello, and Ashley Lostaunau along with her sister, Oleta Ann Portello, mourn her departure. She was predeceased by her sister, Marlene Lostauna, her father, Cosme Sadoy, her mother, Vivian Sadoy, and her brother, Russell Colvin.
A passionate advocate for civil rights, women's rights, racial and gender equality, sexual freedom, and access to education and healthcare, Flo spent her life embodying a rebellious spirit of activism. This, along with her love of music and literature, is the rich legacy she leaves behind.
A lover of horror, true crime, and science fiction, Flo also loved to unwind with computer games, crossword puzzles, and a good book. She cherished the culinary delights of seafood and Filipino cuisine. Monterey was her favorite vacation spot. Her favorite color was purple, reflecting the vibrancy of her personality and tastes.
Flo frequently shared her mantra of 'Music and knowledge is life. Beauty is deeper than surface level', evidence of a mind that was ceaselessly curious and fiercely independent.
A Celebration of Life for Flo will be held on October 5, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Jastro Park. We invite you to join us to remember a woman of unyielding spirit and compassionate action. Her life was a testament to the power of music, the strength of conviction, and the enduring beauty of the human spirit.
