Flora's obituary

Flora Aguilar was a born fighter. From her premature birth on October 11, 1948 in Safford, Arizona until her passing on July 14, 2020, in Chandler, Arizona, she fought against the odds. Although she was diagnosed with Lupus in the late 1980’s and Multiple Myeloma in 2012, we remember her as a vivacious and optimistic person, who loved her family unconditionally, and who served the Lord unquestioningly. From a young age, she helped to support her family and tend to her sisters. She graduated from Safford High School and shortly thereafter, married her one and only love, Robert Aguilar, from Thatcher, Arizona. Being a wife of a Department of Public Safety Officer stationed in the “big city,” they left eastern Arizona and made a life in Chandler, Arizona, where they raised their family.

Flora’s home and kitchen were always open to anyone, and she is famous for feeding delicious homemade Mexican food to anyone who visited. She was also known for her generosity and kindness to strangers, buying groceries or clothes for those in need. She never worried about not having enough because she always said that God would provide, and He did. Many were blessed by her acts of love and kindness, and she never wanted recognition, only for those to do the same for others when they were able. She often talked about how she had wanted more of her own children, and in reality, there are a number of people in the world who consider her their second Mom or adopted Mom, so she had her wish.

Her grandchildren will only remember her proudly supporting them in their endeavors in her heart, if not in her presence, and through video of events due to her illness and frequent hospitalizations, but prior to the onset of her illnesses, when her children were growing up in the 70’s and 80’s, Flora could be found supporting any one of the kids activities, cheering on the kids at any of the sports fields or courts, hosting pool parties, and always cooking, even while working full-time for the Department of Commerce! While working as a field agent, she used her natural abilities as an outgoing and empathetic person to successfully engage clients, which earned her a national award and a guided tour of the U.S. Capitol. Those were glorious days that she often recounted with fondness.

Flora was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Flora LaFleche, her most adored father, Mike Guttierez, and her precious nephew, Landis Frederick. We believe these loved ones and the angels are surrounding Flora and watching over her family, Robert (husband for 53 years, and Baby Griz, her emotional support pup), Robbie (wife Susie, sons Alexander and Augie), Cissy (children Savanna and Gannon), Sasha (significant other Caroline, children Tyler, Pablo, Maddie, Charlie, Ryker, and Charlie), and great-grandchildren (Jack, James and Maximiliano).
