Filomena's obituary
To her family and grandchildren, Filomena Tapawan was
affectionately called “Mommy En.” Filomena was born on November
29, 1926, in Imus, Cavite, the Philippines, the second of nine children to
Maxima and Vicente.
In 1950 she married Meliton Tapawan from Malagasang, Imus,
Cavite at the historical Imus Cathedral. Their family included Zenaida,
Merilyn, Ricardo, and Marie Jane.
In 1965, Meliton retired from serving in the US Navy for twenty
years. The family resided in Makati, Rizal, Philippines until 1978. In
1978, the Tapawan family moved from the Philippines, to Mount Dora
Florida to join their daughter Mei and her family until 1979 when they
moved to Carson, California.
Filomena loved to sew, cook, and travel. During retirement, she
made pilgrimages to the Holy Land, Rome, Fatima, Medjugorie, Croatia,
Lourdes, and Garabandal, Spain. In addition to visiting Holy sites, she
travelled to Paris, saw the Notre Dame Cathedral, the Eiffel Tower,
visited Budapest, Hungary, Vienna, Austria, Belgium, London, and
Australia.
She is survived by her children: Zenaida, Merilyn, and Ricardo.
Marie Jane, her youngest daughter sadly left us due to cancer in 2020.
Her grandchildren Francisco, Michelle, Krystal, Jonathan, Jesse and
Maximus will always remember her affectionately. She has three great
grandchildren: Joseph, Thomas, and Jae.
Although she is no longer with us, she will live on the recipes she
handed down and in her caring and loving personality. Filomena’s
presence will be truly missed every single day until we meet her again.
