Fern Deloris Branchfield-Mreen of Bel-Nor, Missouri passed away on Friday, June 9, 2023, at the age of 86. Beloved daughter of Emma and Doyle Flinn, devoted mother of Craig (Linn) and Aric (Christy) Branchfield, grandmother of Alex, Sarah and Jack, and dear sister of Dorothy Copeland and Carol Flinn. She is preceded in death by her husband Robert Mreen and brother Donald Flinn.

Gifted with a deep appreciation for hard work and education Fern earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree with a Certificate in Writing from the University of Missouri-St. Louis at the age of 63, then obtained a Master of Arts Degree from Washington University at age 69, all while working full-time. She was a proud member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. At 81, she retired from her many years of work at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. An avid reader, when not deeply engaged in supporting her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephew she could always be found with a book in hand, fulfilling her deep passion for learning. Those who knew her best appreciated her caring nature and attentive presence – when you talked to Fern you knew she was listening.

Committed to education until the end, Fern has donated her remains to the Albany College of Medicine in Albany, NY. A Memorial Service will be held for her family and closest friends in St. Louis at a time to be determined. The family requests donations to cancer research and education in lieu of flowers.
