Ferial Fuad Shalhoub, age 73, passed away with her family by her side on August 22, 2022 in Columbia, SC. Ferial had just received last rites and holy communion before she left us. She was a beautiful, kind, funny, loving, and selfless woman. Born Ferial Fuad Mubarak near Beirut, Lebanon, Ferial immigrated to the United States in 1970. In 1971 she met her husband of 46 years, Bassam, in Boston, MA. Ferial spent most of her adult life raising her family of four children in the suburbs of Boston. She worked tirelessly to ensure they had a proper education and a happy childhood. Ferial’s passions were cooking for her family, making her friends and family laugh, volunteering for St. George Orthodox church, and lending her time to many community-based activities where she gave shelter and comfort to refuges of war and immigrants looking for a better life in the United States. She never sought the limelight or credit for her good deeds. She was an angel on earth that touched so many lives.

Ferial spent the last 15 years of her life between her home in Adma, Lebanon and visiting her children and grandchildren in the United States.

Pre-deceased by her husband, Bassam; and her father, Fuad Mubarak. Survived by her mother, Fadia Mubarak; daughters Grace and Nicole; sons Mark and Robert, and their wives Mimi and Leila; two brothers, Freddy and Philip Mubarak, and their wives Diane and Joanne; siblings-in-law Salim and Hayat; grandchildren Alexa, Anthony, Rami, Anabelle, Dany, Luke, Sloane, Jude, Sienna and Sophie; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation will be held on Monday August 29 starting at 10am. Funeral services will begin at 11am. Services will be held at Thompson’s Funeral Home (845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209 USA). A reception will follow.

There will be another funeral service held in Lebanon at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to consider a donation to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, one of Ferial’s favorite charities.

Ferial’s final resting place will be next to her husband and other loved ones in Douma, Lebanon at the Mar Sarkis cemetery, where she can watch over us forever.
