Felicita's obituary

Felicita (Fela) Martínez, 63, of Hamilton, NJ, entered into the arms of our Lord on March 23, 2026, with her loving family and friends by her side. Felicita was a dedicated daughter to her parents, loving sister and aunt to her family, devoted mother to her son, and strong advocate for her community.

Fela was a first-generation Puerto Rican-American, born in Trenton, NJ, to parents Candido Martínez and Eulogia (Torres) Martínez – themselves from the small mountain towns of Utuado and Maunabo, PR. As a middle sibling of the seven Martínez children, Fela helped raise her younger brothers and sisters while also helping both parents integrate into American culture.

Fela’s love for family extended well beyond her immediate family. She shared her love of crocheting, reading, theater, dominoes, education and so much more with her many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, godchildren and friends. She was immensely thoughtful and caring, always remembering and celebrating birthdays, anniversaries, and graduations. She had deep, personal connections that enriched everyone who experienced them.

Fela is survived by her only son, Sergio Morua-Martínez. She worked tirelessly to provide Sergio with the best life had to offer – from sports practices to piano lessons, and a private education. He was the great joy of her life.

Until the very end, Fela gave back to the Trenton area where she was raised. She attended Trenton Central High School, and worked at New Jersey State Public Library for 40 years – from the age of 18. At the library, she built deep and lasting friendships that endured well past her retirement. She also volunteered with the Trenton Diocese, helping both Anglo and Hispanic communities come together to celebrate life. She was the treasurer of the Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament, parishioner and lectern of Our Lady of the Angels Parish, participated in the choir and instructed children as a CCD teacher.

In addition to her son Sergio (spouse - Jeremy Hébert), she is survived by her mother Eulogia Martínez; siblings Rosemary Martínez, Miguel (Joellen) Martínez, Candido (Carmen) Martínez Jr., and Judy (Bee Jay) Martínez-Cooper; and beloved dogs Molly and Mowgli. She is predeceased by her father Candido, and siblings Sonia and Wilberto Martínez.

Visitation for family and friends will be held Tuesday March 31, 2026, at Our Lady of the Angels Parish-Immaculate Conception Church, 540 Chestnut Avenue, Trenton, NJ, from 9:30 AM to 11:45 AM.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 12:00 PM at Our Lady of the Angels Parish-Immaculate Conception Church, 540 Chestnut Avenue, Trenton, NJ.

Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, 1200 Cedar Lane, Hamilton, NJ.
